Turkey Trot for orchestra tunes this Thanksgiving

MARQUETTE — Orchestra students at Marquette Area Public Schools are getting ready for their annual Turkey Trot fundraiser.

The Turkey Trot is a 5 and 10k fundraiser race for all orchestra students in Marquette. With over 200 students participating in Orchestra throughout grades 6-12 at Marquette Area Public Schools, it takes a lot of work to keep the high standards they set for themselves.

“There are a lot of costs in keeping an orchestra or any music program up and running,” said Marquette Area Public Schools Orchestra Director Eric Marta, “and we want to make it as easy as we can on the students and people involved so students don’t have to be renting their own instruments, buying their own supplies, so we can supply those things.”

“It brings the funds so that we can continue to have the superb orchestra’s that Marquette Schools are known for,” said Senior Violist Maitri White, “our community really enjoys the concerts we put on and the musicals we put on and all this fun stuff. Coming out to run this race is really what helps us be able to do that and continue to have the level of excellence our community is used to seeing from us.”

The Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving day at the canopy entrance of Marquette Senior High School. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 so there will still be plenty of time afterward to make it to the rest of your Thanksgiving plans.
