Free, ranger led programs taking place at national parks

MUNISING — With the weather finally deciding to cooperate, make sure you get outdoors and take advantage of the few gorgeous weeks we have left at national parks.

The national park service has several Ranger led programs available to visitors free of charge. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Rangers has numerous activities in the Munising area.

“You can take a walk down to Miners Beach from Miners Castle. Just before you get to Miners Castle there is Miners Falls, which is a lot like Munising Falls which is right behind me. We like taking people along that half-mile trail down there. It is a great place to go in the woods and see the falls back there,” said Susan Reese, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Some other activities include a Sable Falls Dune and Hurricane River Campground walk. They have Lighthouse tours and shipwreck programs, sites that both visitors and Rangers are in awe of.

“I love it, there is a peace and tranquility as well as things to discover. There is always something new when you walk around places you have never been before,” said Cape Coral, Florida visitor Patrick Farrell.

“I do love Miners Falls, the view from Miners Castle, no matter what time of day or weather is really neat, the castle sitting there with the cliffs and Lake Superior in the distance, whether it is the sun rising or if it is the fog coming up off the lake, it is just a beautiful place. There are also trails, the North County trails goes right through that area as it goes through the entire park.” continued Reece.
