ESCANABA — It’s an event that you look forward to all year long and then…rain, the Michigan State Fair in the Upper Peninsula that opens today and is a rain or shine event.

This is Yooper country  so a little rain isn’t stopping the Michigan State Fair in the Upper Peninsula from opening. It kicks off with dizzying rides, phenomenal acrobatic feats and the favored Ferris Wheel, possibly only being topped with barns of cuteness all on four legs stealing the show. And speaking of shows and grandstand entertainment, Josh Thompson performs on Tuesday. Wednesday you can drown in the lovely tunes of “Drowning Pool”, Tyler Fair on Thursday and Friday is promising to be fabulous with “Fab Four” the Beatles tribute band, delighting the crowds.

For the weekend, the entertainment shifts to UPIR Racing and “Armageddon on Wheels.” Everyday, plenty of tasty treats will be available from delicious ice cream to freshly made taffy.

The fair ends on Sunday. Hours, pricing, discount days and all the latest Michigan State Fair in the U.P. information can be found here.
