Marquette City Commission discusses food truck ordinance

MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Commission held a regular meeting Tuesday night.

One of the main items on the agenda was the discussion of the hotly debated Mobile Food Vending Ordinance. The proposed ordinance was put to public hearing so both restaurant and food truck owners could have their say. There were a few minor changes made to the rule.

“I think what the food truck ordinance does is give certainty to the food truck drivers and to vendors, for example hot dog vendors and ice cream vendors, so they know exactly what they can do, where they can do it and when. This wasn’t done just arbitrarily, it was done with a lot of conversation with them and restaurant owners and the city. So, I think it’ll be a fair deal for everyone,” said Mayor Mike Coyne.

On the consent agenda for the evening was the state of the Presque Isle Band Shell. The structure is in a pretty damp area of the park, and has been leaking quite a bit lately. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as the roof hasn’t been replaced in around thirty years. Mayor Coyne said it should only take about five thousand dollars for the repair.
