Sex offender arrested upon coming to Michigan
GLADSTONE — A 44 year old man living in Mellen Township was arrested on Saturday for failing to register as a sex offender.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Post in Gladstone received an anonymous tip that the unregistered sex offender left Wisconsin quickly and failed to notify Michigan law enforcement officials that he was residing in Michigan.
According to the Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act, a registered sex offender must regularly report to their local law enforcement agency, sheriff’s office, or nearest state police post to verify their address. They must also report a change of name, address, employment, campus enrollment, internet identifiers and vehicle within three business days of any change. Failure to do so can result in a four-year felony.
While the troopers were at the man’s home, they discovered another 44 year old male who had a 2-count felony warrant for his arrest for delivery of marijuana. He was arrested as well and lodged at the Menominee County Jail on the UPSET charges.
At this time, both names are being withheld pending arraignment.
