Outdoor enthusiasts to see improvements in Marquette

MARQUETTE — Marquette city improvements are underway and everyone from fisherman and boaters to runners and bikers will soon be rowing and treking down a different and improved path.

City officials are working out the details to improve the city’s walking and biking paths. The paths will now connect Tourist Park and the Kaufman Auditorium.

“The thing that people really really said was most important to them and their families was trails, and paved trails were high on that list. The city has just under 18 miles of multi–use pathways and this project, with Hawley Street puts it just over 18 miles. It adds about 2,500 feet,” said John Swenson, the Assistant Director of Community Services for the City of Marquette.

There will also be two new boat launches at the Presque Isle Park that will be great for boaters and fishermen. This enhancement will also include expanded parking.

“Lake Superior’s waters have been fluctuation quite a bit lately. These piers will be able to move in and out with the water levels. It is engineered to accommodate all the way down to the historic record low and all the way up to the historic record high,” continued Swenson.

The next public update meeting on the various city improvement projects will take place on Tuesday, March 17 at 5:15 p.m. at the Lakeview Arena Community Room. The public is invited to attend.
