Minnesota man injured in snowmobile accident
SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP — One man was injured in a snowmobile accident in Houghton County Friday morning.
Troopers from the Calumet Post of the Michigan State Police say the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Trail #3 about one mile south of Gas Plant Road in Schoolcraft Township. Preliminary investigation showed that a 49-year-old man from Andover, MN had failed to negotiate a turn, leaving the trail and hitting some trees.
Troopers and other members of the snowmobile group responded to the scene, where troopers administered first aid until Bootjack First Responders arrived with a rescue vehicle. The man was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance. He was in stable condition, but police say he was going to be flown to a Level 1 Trauma Center in Minnesota for further treatment.
Police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
