Wildcat men fall to T’Wolves
MIDLAND, Mich. – Northern Michigan University men’s basketball (9-17, 7-13 GLIAC) fell to Northwood 81-66 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action to close out the road portion of their schedule. The Wildcats set a new team record for free throw percentage in a game going 14-14 from the free throw line bettering a 13-13 performance against Grand Valley State earlier this season.
The Wildcats held the lead early in the first half to an 18-17 score with 9:49 left in the half before Northwood used an 11-3 run to take their first lead of the game at a 28-21 tally with 6:48 remaining in the half. Northern Michigan cut the deficit down to three before the Timberwolves finished the half on a 17-5 run to take a 45-30 lead heading into the locker room.
Northwood would shoot 19-29 (.655) from the field in the half with NMU going 11-24 (.458).
The second half saw back and forth play with Northwood maintaining a consistent double-digit lead to the final score of 81-66.
NMU finished the game shooting 23-51 (.451) with 6-17 (.353) coming from the three-point line. Northwood continued their hot shooting going 31-55 (.564) from the field with 5-15 (.333) shooting from the three-point line.
Northwood center Will Bowles led all scorers with 36 points shooting 14-16 (.875) from the field and going 8-8 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore guard Marcus Hall had a team-high 17 points to lead the Wildcats with senior forward Chavis Mattison and freshman guard Jordan Perez chipping in 16 and 12, respectively.
Freshman forward Alex Sorenson and Mattison each pulled down five rebounds in the game, while Perez assisted on five baskets for NMU.
Northern Michigan closes out the season hosting Michigan Tech Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Day.
