Gladstone Post of state police shares 2014 highlights

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Post of the Michigan State Police had a good and busy 2014 and they’re sharing their highlights with the public.

They had a couple of troopers transfer into the post and even promoted one trooper to sergeant. The post also hosted a number of events including Stuff a Blue Goose, in which they filled three patrol cars in Delta and Menominee Counties with toys and canned goods.

“That was very well received,” said Community Service Tpr. Dale Hongisto. “I was just taken aback, how people really care, because I was wondering how it was going to turn out and within two hours we had one patrol car completely stuffed. That’s something we’re going to be doing every year.”

Also in 2014 the Gladstone MSP had one of their own certified as a Drug Recognition Expert.

And each year the various state police posts engage in a traffic safety initiative. Gladstone troopers focused on monitoring school zones before and after school.

“We talked about Kelsey’s Law,” Hongisto said. “That’s minors using their phones while they’re traveling and actually being prohibited from doing that. Also texting and driving has been a big national push, and that’s a big thing, especially now if almost every young person has a phone.”

Many of the events held in 2014 will occur again throughout 2015.
