Hubbell murder suspect returns to court
HOUGHTON — A Hubbell man accused of second-degree murder appeared in Houghton County Circuit Court today. Paul Moilanen, 42, is also facing an attempted murder charge.
His attorney, David Gemignani, requested that Moilanen take an independent psychological assessment, to which Judge Charles Goodman agreed.
Moilanen is accused of stabbing Marcy LaVigne, 48, and her teenage daughter in September at the LaVignes’ house in Hubbell. Marcy LaVigne died from her injuries, but her daughter survived.
Moilanen’s next court appearance has not been scheduled yet. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence.
