Arts and culture grants awarded to Marquette County organizations
MARQUETTE — Twelve arts and culture organizations across Marquette County were awarded grants ranging in size from just over $3,000 to $30,000.
Over $240,000 were dispersed to the organizations, including:
- The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum: $30,000
- The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum: $6,524
- Lake Superior Theatre Inc.: $32,000
- Lake Superior Theatre Inc.: $13,750
- Liberty Children’s Art Project: $20,000
- Marquette Area Public Schools: $18,000
- Marquette Area Public Schools: $14,025
- Marquette Maritime Museum: $20,000
- City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center: $5,850
- City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center: $13,750
- Marquette Regional History Center: $22,500
- Northern Michigan University: $16,328
- Marquette Symphony Orchestra: $18,750
- Lake Superior Art Association: $9,984
- Gwinn Area Community Schools: $3,250
- Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority: $10,000
The funding comes from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Last year the MCACA awarded $7.6 million ($196,750 to Marquette County) to arts and cultural organizations and this year $9.7 million was awarded, a 27% increase.
