Icy roads cause two-vehicle crash in Marquette Township
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Icy and snowy roads caused a two-vehicle accident in Marquette Township and sent three people to the hospital Tuesday night.
The accident happened on U.S. 41 near Best Buy just east of the Brookton Road intersection Tuesday night around 10:30 p.m.
The Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police say 46-year-old Mark Enis of Skandia was driving westbound on U.S. 41 when he lost control of his 2007 Ford Pickup and slid across the median into the path of a Toyota Tacoma driven by Tonya Gustafson, 35, of Negaunee.
Enis was found at fault in the crash and was cited for violation of the basic speed law–driving too fast for conditions.
Gustafson received minor injuries and sought her own treatment at UP Health Systems Marquette. A passenger in Enis’ vehicle, 26-year-old Kimberly Thompson, was transported to UP Health Systems Marquette for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say all occupants were wearing seatbelts and air bags deployed in both vehicles.
The Marquette City Police, Marquette Township Fire Dept., and an ambulance from UP Health Systems Marquette assisted on scene.
