NMU adds three to women’s b-ball team
MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University head women’s basketball coach Troy Mattson announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent. Taylor Hodell (Wausau, Wis.), Haley Kershner (Rockton, Ill.) and Emily Schramek (Naperville, Ill.) will be joining the Wildcats for the 2015-2016 season.
Taylor Hodell, a 6-5 center, played for DC Everest High School and averaged 17.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game as a junior. She was named the Wisconsin Valley Conference Player of the Year, Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association First Team All-State and to the First Team Wisconsin Valley All-Conference in 2013-14. Taylor was also Associated Press Honorable Mention and voted to the All-Area Team.
Haley Kershner, a 6-1 guard/forward, played for Hononegah Community High School and averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds per game and 1.5 steals per game in 2013-14. She was named NIC honorable mention and was an NIC Scholar-Athlete in 2013-14 after making 101-253 three-pointers (.400).
Emily Schramek, a 6-0 guard, is currently a senior at Benet Academy High School in Lisle, Ill. As a junior she averaged 15.2 points, 5.0 rebounds per game and converted 81-211 (.380) three-pointers in 2013-14. Schramek played in the East Suburban Catholic Conference where she has been selected to the All -Area team and All-County honorable mention the last two seasons and was an honorable mention All-State selection as a junior.
“We are very excited about all three signees,” said Mattson. “They are outstanding players, very good students and they should help us continue with the success we have rebuilt here at NMU.”
The Wildcats open the 2014-15 season at the Moorhead State Tournament today at 9 p.m. against Minnesota-Crookston.
