Wisconsin man dies in Marinette County crash
MARINETTE COUNTY, WISC. — A 20-year-old man from Coleman, Wisconsin is dead after a two-vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday in Marinette County.
The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office says Ryan Zempel died at a Green Bay hospital Friday after suffering serious injuries he sustained in the crash.
On Wednesday, Zempel was driving a sedan on U.S. 41 near Kamm Road in Grover when he was struck broadside by a southbound GMC Yukon driven by 47-year-old Frank Duda of Lena, Wisconsin. Duda was transported to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette for the treatment of his injuries and is expected to recover.
Police say failure to yield appears to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
The Peshtigo Police Department, Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, City of Marinette Police Department, Grover Porterfield Fire Department, Town of Peshtigo Fire Department, Bay Area Medical Paramedics, Wisconsin Public Safety, Marinette County HWY Department, and the Marinette County Sheriff’s Auxiliary assisted on scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
This is the third traffic crash fatality in Marinette County in 2014.
