Huskies staying humble about hot start

HOUGHTON – The No. 9 Michigan Tech Huskies are back at home this weekend, where they will take on Alaska Anchorage. The Seawolves is coming off a series split at home against Lake State. Although Tech is 6-0-0, the Huskies are staying humble, knowing that there is still a lot of hockey left to be played.

“It’s early in the year, we’ve got good competition, and players are fighting hard to get into the lineup right now,” said Huskies head coach Mel Pearson.

“We’ve got a lot to prove to ourselves. Even with everything going on last weekend, there were a lot of distractions. I think this weekend we’ll be real dialed in. We have to get back into the league race and take advantage of playing at home,” added Pearson.

“When you get good goaltending and only give up one or two goals a game, it makes the job easier for everyone else,” said MTU forward Tanner Kero about goaltender Jamie Phillips. “You can kind of rally off of him (Phillips). When he makes the big save it gets us fired up and makes it easier for us to go down and score if he’s making those saves on our end.”

Jamie Phillips will be in net once again for the Huskies against the Seawolves. Puck drop is set for 7:37 p.m. on Friday and a half hour earlier, just after 7 p.m. on Saturday.
