Father charged in shooting death of 12-year-old daughter
SAULT STE. MARIE — A Dafter father has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after his daughter died during a youth hunting event on Drummond Island in September.
According to the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office, Jose Lefebre-Toro, 43, acted in a grossly negligent manner after he allegedly placed a loaded, uncased rifle with the safety off in a vehicle. The gun was allegedly pointed in the direction of a rear passenger seat.
His daughter, Shellsea Lefebre-Schiel, 12, was sitting in the rear seat when the rifle discharged, killing her.
Lefebre-Toro appeared in Chippewa County District Court Thursday for arraignment and was released on a personal recognizance bond.
