NMU to play a strange series vs. Chargers
MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University hockey team is 4-0-0 to start the season after sweeps of Wisconsin and Lake Superior State. NMU plays Alabama–Huntsville this weekend in Marquette in a non–conference series against a conference opponent.
The Wildcats will play the Chargers six times this season. Four of the six meetings between the two teams will count in the WCHA standings. This non–conference series will be a good test for the ‘Cats, as the Chargers continue to improve under second year head coach Mike Corbett.
“I think he’s got some great players there; he’s created a great work ethic. I’ve known Mike for a number of years. I think he’s a good coach. It’s always tough to find wins and I don’t want to be the first mark on their list,” said NMU head coach Walt Kyle.
“It will be an interesting series with them being a conference opponent,” said NMU co–captain Ryan Kesti. “We have to continue to show up, work hard and win games. It should be a good time and everyone is excited to kick off the home stand, to get some students in here and some fans.”
“We’re just going to stick to our game plan and play the way we have been playing lately, come together more as a team and just do the right things,” said NMU forward John Siemer.
NMU will get a boost up front and on the blue line Friday, with the season debut of senior forward Reed Seckel and senior defenseman Luke Eibler. Both guys have been out of the lineup dealing with injuries.
Puck drop against the Chargers is 7:07 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
