MTU’s Phelps earns weekly GLIAC award
BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech soccer player Jenna Phelps (Green Bay, Wis.) has been named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Huskies sweep a pair of league opponents last week.
The junior goalkeeper had a combined nine saves with only one goal surrendered in a 2-0-0 weekend at Sherman Field. She posted five saves in a 2-1 win over Findlay last Friday (Oct. 3) vs. Ohio Dominican. She then had four stops in more than an hour of game time as the Huskies shut out Walsh 1-0 in overtime.
Phelps is 5-1-0 in goal for the Huskies this season with a 0.91 goals against average.
The two wins kept Tech unbeaten in GLIAC play at 4-0-0 while handing both ODU and Walsh their first league losses.
Michigan Tech plays on the road in Ohio this weekend with games at Malone Friday (Oct. 10) and at Lake Erie Sunday (Oct. 12).
