Testimony begins in armed robbery trial
L’ANSE — Testimony began today in the trial of an armed robbery suspect in Baraga County.
Bernard Fish, 47, of Shawano, Wisconsin told Judge Charles Goodman on Monday that he wanted to fire his attorney, Matthew Tingstad, and represent himself. Judge Goodman rejected Fish’s request this morning.
Fish is charged with two counts each of armed robbery, extortion and unlawful imprisonment. He’s also facing one count of impersonating a peace officer.
Fish is accused of robbing two Watton residents at gunpoint in August 2013 while pretending to be a U.S. Marshal.
His nephew and former co-defendant, Donovan Waupoose, is expected to testify against him after taking a plea agreement.
