L’ANSE — The village of L’Anse is going to be receiving a federal grant for nearly $1.3 million to support the development of a new industrial park.

The offices of both Senator Carl Levin and Senator Debbie Stabenow say the money will come from the Economic Development Administration, which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The L’Anse park is expected to address demand in the area for industrial space and allow for job creation.

Village Manager Robert LaFave says it’s a big win for the village.

“Right now, there’s not any other industrial space available pretty much in the county and by getting this developed, we’re going to be able to offer opportunities for investment, job creation, which we know we desperately need here in this area,” LaFave said.

The grant from the EDA will help pay for utility infrastructure and road construction.

Levin and Stabenow say 84 new jobs are expected to be created because of the industrial park and $4 million in private–sector investment is expected to follow.
