NMU golf team competes in GLIAC Invite
SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University golf team wrapped up action at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Fall Invitation Sunday.
The Wildcats wrapped up the day with a combined two-day team score of 624 finishing 11th in the 14-team field.
“We are going to work to continually put ourselves in a position to finish well,” said NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach. “We did that well this week and we learned a lot. The team is excited to play in next week’s regional in Chicago.”
Sophomore Emil Lundgren led the Wildcats on day two shooting a +4 during the second round to finish the tournament with a combined score of 153 in a tie for 30th place.
Senior Ayrton Mantha entered day two in second place after shooting a first round 69, but finished in a tie for 20th after shooting a +10 on day two and had a two-day combined score of 151.
Sophomore Dustin Dishaw finished in a tie for 59th place with a two-day score of 160 followed by junior Ben Johnson who shot a 162 to finish in a tie for 71st place and freshman Austin Elsner rounded out the group at 166 in 78th place.
Grand Valley State picked up the win in the two-day event with a team score of 593.
The Wildcats return to action at the Great Lakes Midwest Regional Sept. 29-30.
