Man accused of accidentally shooting son pleads no contest
MARQUETTE — A Richmond Township man who is accused of accidentally shooting his 18-year-old son during an argument opted for a plea instead of going to trial.
Richard Lehto, 58, had a trial scheduled to start Tuesday in Marquette County Circuit Court. Instead, he pleaded no contest to one count of assault with intent to harm, less than murder. Two other charges, domestic violence and firearm use under the influence causing impairment were dropped.
He was arrested in March after his firearm accidentally discharged after arguing with his son. Lehto will be sentenced October 24.
