Grant to help U.P. organization improve women’s health care
An Upper Peninsula organization is one of 87 groups awarded grants to help reduce infant mortality and other health problems related to pregnancy.
The Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, Inc. Consortium of Michigan’s Federal Tribes in Sault Ste Marie received a Healthy Start Grant worth over $850,000. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $92 million dollars to organizations in 33 states.
Healthy Start targets the needs of vulnerable mothers and infants in areas of the county and aims to improve women’s access to health care.
The Inter-Tribal Council was one of three Native American organizations to receive funding.
