UPAWS hosted its seventh annual Collars for a Cause event today at Fox Motors in Marquette.

Anyone looking to adopt a pet was able to choose from dozens of cats, dogs and even a rabbit, all for free. In hopes of finding homes for as many four-legged friends as possible, Fox Motors paid for 100% of the adoption fees.

“We are coming right to the ceiling with cats right now, and kittens. So an event like this is phenomenal for us to help get these animals into loving homes and to get our numbers reduced,” UPAWS director of community outreach Ann Brownell said.

UPAWS brought 15 kittens, 13 adult cats and five dogs out for the one-day event. But if potential foster parents weren’t able to find what they were looking for under the Fox awning, there were more animals in need waiting at the shelter and at PetSmart. Those animals also had their adoption fees paid for with vouchers from the main Collars for a Cause event.

“We’re a very small shelter, we do the very, very best we can but we need help. We need people to adopt and an event like these are pertinent to get these animals into homes,” Brownell added.

The event ran from noon until six today, but in case you missed it, Fox Negaunee will host another Collars for a Cause event at the end of September.
