The name of the driver in Wednesday’s utility pole car crash has been released.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says an investigation into the accident revealed John Argall, 65, of Negaunee became drowsy and drifted off the road before striking a telephone pole. Argall was found at fault for the crash. He has since been treated and released from Bell Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

North Road was closed for several hours while utility crews repaired the pole and worked to restore power.

A Negaunee man is recovering from injuries sustained earlier this afternoon in a car crash that caused a power pole to snap in half.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene near Mattson Road in Negaunee Township just after 2:30 p.m. Police say a 65-year-old man heading northbound on North Road appeared to veer across the southbound lane before striking a utility pole. The pole came apart in the process, causing power lines to break free. The driver stayed inside the vehicle until first responders and technicians from the Marquette Board of Light and Power deactivated the down power lines, which were resting on his roof.  The man was eventually transported to Bell Memorial Hospital by Bell EMS for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say he was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, and that alcohol was not a factor. However, the crash remains under investigation.

The Marquette Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Negaunee Township Fire Department, Bell EMS, and the Marquette Board of Light and Power.
