Public invited to hear from city commission, county board candidates at forum
The primary election is just over two weeks away, and there are a number of candidates vying for a seat on the Marquette County Board and Marquette City Commission.
40 Below Marquette County, a group of young professionals, is hosting a candidate forum Thursday. It is a chance for the community to meet the candidates and hear what makes them most qualified to hold office.
“It’s important for the general public to come and hear from the candidates directly from their vision, and also it’s close to 40 Below’s mission to provide a platform for civic engagement and connect our aspiring community leaders with members of the public,” 40 Below Marquette County member Marina Dupler said.
There are 17 candidates running for seats on the county board, and seven running for seats on the city commission.
Each candidate will have an opportunity to give a statement and answer a few questions at the forum.
“There are two standard questions for city candidates, one for county candidates,” Dupler said. “We will be asking the audience to submit questions and we’ll be pulling them at random–two questions–and each candidate will have one minute to respond and then they’ll give a closing statement.”
The forum is Thursday at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) in the Marquette City Commission chambers, and will be broadcast on city’s community access channel.
