Man comes home and finds house on fire with dog inside
A Negaunee man came home Thursday morning only to find flames coming from inside.
Negaunee firefighters say the fire broke out just after 11:30 a.m. on the corner of Maas Street and US-41 across from Fox Motors. Officials say the homeowner went to his neighbor to call 911 after spotting the fire. The man was able to get his dog out safely, and both are reportedly in good health. Aside from the dog, no one else was home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after receiving the call and were able to put out the fire with minimal structural damage to the exterior of the home. However, officials were notified that the homeowner was a self-loader, and had gunpowder stored inside. Firefighters performed a mop up to prevent further flare ups. They also placed injector fans throughout the home for ventilation. The interior of the ranch suffered some fire and water damage, but no one was injured.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. More information is expected to be released later today.
Negaunee firefighters were assisted on scene by Negaunee Police, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, the Marquette Township Fire Department, and Marquette County Rescue Unit 131.
