NMU’s Stewart earns top GLIAC honor

GENEVA, Ohio – Northern Michigan University senior Cheyenne Stewart continued her stellar senior campaign by capturing first in the triple jump during competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday at the Spire Institute. After winning both the long jump and triple jump, Stewart was named the GLIAC Female Field Athlete of the Year.
The Wildcats wrapped up action at the GLIAC Championships finishing seventh out of 15 teams with 45 points. Grand Valley finished first in the women’s standings with 185.50 points.
Stewart scored first place points for the Wildcats with a jump of 40-9.00 in the triple jump adding to her first place finish on Thursday in the long jump.
Junior Christina Toogood also scored first place points for the Wildcats winning the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:31.54. Toogood added a third place finish in the 800 meter run clocking a 2:11.94.
Junior Brittni Wirtz finished sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.41 while sophomore Avadon James finished seventh with a time of 12.44. James also added an 8th place finish in the 200 meter run posting a finish of 25.41.
Freshman Jasmine Williams finished sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 148-11 while freshman Samanthia Johnson placed 12th with a throw of 133-5.
