Six NMU-OTS Wrestlers Qualify for World Team Trials

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Seven Greco-Roman wrestlers from the Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site recently qualified to participate in the United States World Team Trials May 31 – June 1 in Madison, Wis. To qualify, a wrestler had to place in the top seven in his weight class at the ASICS Senior Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, held Saturday, April 19.
Winning a gold medal at the Senior Open was Kendrick Sanders of Homestead, Fla., at 80 kilograms. Finishing fifth was Dillon Cowan of Harvard, Ill., at 71 kg., and taking sixth were Anthonie Linares of San Jose, Calif., at 71 kg., and Josh Greer of Birmingham, Ala., at 80 kg.
Seventh-place finishers were Dmitry Ryabchinskiy of Brooklyn, N.Y., at 59 kg., and Nick Alvarez of Miami, Fla., at 66 kg.
The U.S. World Team Trials will determine athletes who will compete at the 2014 World Wrestling Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, September 8-14.
