Silent Art Auction to benefit St. Vincent DePaul

Three prized paintings were donated to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul by an anonymous donor to help them raise money for the organization.

St. Vincent staff says the set of artwork and their frames are originals, and have increased in value over the years. In turn, the store has decided on a special showing in the form of a Silent Auction.

Commissioned back in 1977 by local artist Roger Junak, the set sold for $300 dollars. The collection represents The Last Supper, The Crucifixion and The Resurrection.

“Those pictures are great, they are beautiful they are just amazing and it was such a thrill to get those. As soon as we got them we contacted the artist and it was fun to hear the story behind them and see exactly what they represent for the artist. He remembers exactly when he did it and the order and apparently like all artists each piece is a part of himself that that he put into it,” said Stephanie Bordeaux, St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store Manager.

Junak is known for his spiritual paintings with murals in churches in Marquette and Ishpeming, along with displays in Marquette General Hospital, the Iron Industry Museum and Cliff’s Mine Shaft Museum, to name a few.

“It brings you peace, the colors are very soft you can definitely see a lot of the feelings and a lot of emotion in them that the artist felt at the time,” continued Bordeaux.

The Auction begins Friday, March 21 – April 4.
