Phone scam attempts to gain financial information

Police are advising people to be aware of a telephone scam that has been occurring in the area.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office says that area law enforcement officials are advising the public of a rash of attempts to gain personal financial information. Unknown suspects call the victim, saying there is a problem with their credit or debit card. They ask the victim to enter personal numbers to clear up the problem.

The calls are done as a voice recording identifying a financial institution from which they allegedly originate. The calls may show up as restricted on caller ID’s.

Area law enforcement officials are reminding people to never give out personal financial information over the telephone to an unknown source.
