Auditions for “She Kills Monsters” at NMU
Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre is planning a fun and interesting new play.
“She Kills Monsters” is an action-packed “Dungeons and Dragons”-inspired adventure. In addition to comedy and high-flying suspense, the play addresses sisterhood and the problems women deal with today. An emphasis on stage combat using unique weaponry helps make this production one of a kind.
“There’s a great deal of stage combat in this show in particular, and the thing is, there’s a lot of stuff going on,” assistant director Timothy Grams said. “You don’t lose focus or anything, but there’s a lot to be entertained with.”
“There are a lot of magic swords, there are bows, there are knives, and then there are a lot of weapons…well, for the evil cheerleaders? We had to invent weapons, so that’s going to be a surprise for the audience,” NMU professor Dr. Shelley Russell said.
Auditions are open to anyone because a wide range of talent is needed to put on a show like this.
“I hope we get a lot of people who have never been on stage before auditioning for this show,” Russell said. “You can come with a piece memorized, (but) you don’t have to. I’ve told people just to bring yourself and dress for comfort, and we’ll play!”
The auditions are being held Thursday and Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the theatre. The performances will take place in April. For more information about “She Kills Monsters,” you can click here.
