Marquette Hockey Moms raise funds for one of their own
Another symbol of the community’s strength was on display tonight in Marquette, as the American Legion played host to a Spaghetti Dinner for a mother in need.
Hundreds of supporters lined up outside Post #44, despite the blistering conditions, to take part in the Marquette American Legion Hockey Mom’s delicious $5 fundraiser.
“This was initially going to be the American Legion Hockey Team’s fundraiser that we do on a yearly basis, and then one of the moms on the team was diagnosed with brain cancer. So, we came together as a team with some of the other people in the community and decided to make this a fundraiser for the family instead of just the hockey team,” explained Michelle, one of the Hockey Moms.
The Marquette Hockey Moms are family of their own. That’s why they pulled together and gathered the support needed to help a dedicated mother of three battle her debilitating disease and large medical expenses.
“We are a close-knit group. Many of us have been involved with each other for years as our boys, right now, are 14 and 15. Many of them have played together since they were Mites, which is usually around 5 or 6 years old,” added Michelle. “This community has been unbelievable. We have raffle items, over 60 raffle items, that were donated by different businesses and different families in the community.”
If you’d like to help out, you still can by making a monetary donation to “Amy’s Benefit” at the U.P. Catholic Credit Union.
