State lawmakers host Ishpeming coffee hour
Two state representatives from the U.P. met with constituents this morning and talked about plans for the upcoming year.
110th District State Representative Scott Dianda of Calumet talked about his upcoming goals for 2014. Dianda wants to focus on the state transportation budget to help improve roadways for Michigan drivers.
“Well, for the upcoming year we’re looking at doing a lot of things with the transportation budget and want to make sure that there are structural changes where the money that we’re paying into the state is spent wisely and that we look at fixing these roads and making sure that the 1.2 million dollar advance that they want to pass is spent on the counties, and the locals in the cities,” he said.
109th District State Representative John Kivela of Marquette also looked ahead to the new year. Kivela has a primary goal in mind for education and jobs.
“Education and jobs. Those are the two key components, and they are really intertwined,” he said. “We have a lot of people looking for work that don’t have the skill sets for the jobs that are available, so education and jobs are tied right together.”
Dianda and Kivela are hosting another coffee hour meeting Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Powell Township Hall in Big Bay.
