U.P. readies for winter weather
The National Weather Service in Marquette says parts of Upper Michigan are under a Winter Weather Advisory. The region can expect several inches of wet, heavy snow tonight into Tuesday morning over the west and north central Upper Peninsula.
A low pressure system over eastern Lake Superior will bring colder air moving into the northern Great Lakes and produce lake enhanced snow showers. We can expect westerly winds this afternoon to shift to the northwest and north tonight bringing widespread snow showers this evening into Tuesday morning.
The areas affected include Ontonagon, Houghton, Baraga, Gogebic, Iron and Marquette Counties. Some areas could see as much as 4 inches of wet snow, with increased amounts in higher terrain areas.
As usual, the reminder is that roads may become snow and slush covered making travel hazardous. The NWS says ‘prepare…plan…and stay informed.’ Find out more about your area at www.weather.gov/mqt.
