Child abuse awareness event in Harvey Saturday
A sophomore at Marquette Senior High School is putting together an event Saturday to raise awareness of child abuse prevention.
Bailey Inch is organizing an event at the Lakenenland sculpture park in Harvey. His aunt says her nephew wants to give a voice to people who can’t speak for themselves. He’s enlisted the support of Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan.
“He might have a speaker from there to discuss child abuse,” Lori Connelly said. “Also, I know that there’s going to be hayrides available. We’re trying to make this a fun event also, and he might have some music.”
Bailey is a big sports fan. The two-year-old son of NFL star Adrian Peterson died last Friday from an alleged attack by his mother’s boyfriend. “(Bailey) was really upset by that event, and he was spurred into creating an event to make people more aware of child abuse.”
The event begins at Lakenenland at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. There’s no admission charge, but donations to support Teaching Family Homes will be encouraged.
