Breast cancer awareness at Bell Hospital
Bell Hospital in Ishpeming is participating in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to encourage more people to get screened.
Bell hospital is going ‘Pretty in Pink’ to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month. Every Friday in October staff members can pay $2 to wear pink.
Last year this effort raised $800 for Cancer Care of Marquette County.
The nurses say it is important that people know you do not have to have had a history of breast cancer in your family to get breast cancer.
“Early detection is the key to success, a lot of women who don’t event know they have cancer come in and are taken care of immediately,” Sandee Wood said.
“With technology today we can detect cancer much earlier than we did years before, and if we can catch the cancer early then the treatment is much more successful,” Judy Smith said.
Breast cancer results are ready the same day. Bell Hospital is having free breast cancer screenings and exams on Friday, October 18 but appointments are necessary.
To make an appointment to schedule a breast cancer exam, call (906) 485-2671.
Other events the hospital is putting on this month include:
Wednesday, October 16–History of the Brassier Lecture
