Former NMU football player facing multiple drug charges
A former Northern Michigan University football player has been formally charged with four counts of felony prescription drug possession.
Chuck Klingbeil was arraigned by telephone through the Houghton County District Court. Officials at the Houghton County District Court said that Klingbeil turned himself in directly to the court, and not the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.
Klingbeil, 47, played football at NMU in the late 1980s and went on to play for the Miami Dolphins for a brief period. He currently lives in Houghton where he volunteered at Michigan Technological University for the football team.
Officials at the courthouse also said Klingbeil is out on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond and is due back to the district court for a preliminary exam on November 1.
