Death of woman in Houghton investigated

The suspicious death of an 84-year-old female Houghton resident is being investigated by the Houghton City Police Department.

Officers were called to the scene at about 11 a.m. Saturday.  They say they found what appeared to be a breaking and entering of the residence – and the woman who lived there was found deceased.

A suspect is being investigated in the case…and the investigation is underway into the cause of the woman’s death.

A forensic team was seen at the residence today, and police/caution tape was used to block off the area.

Agencies assisting the Houghton Police include the Michigan State Police, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock City Police Department and Michigan Technological University Public Safety.
