Ford Airport to get federal grant
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin today announced federal support for Ford Airport in Dickinson County. The competitive grant will be used to acquire firefighting safety and snow removal equipment, and to rehabilitate the terminal building and the runway and taxiway to ensure a safe airfield.
Sen. Stabenow said: “Making sure passengers are able to travel to and from Dickinson County safely and efficiently is vital to the region’s economy. I am pleased this funding will support critical improvements at Ford Airport to help increase travel and business activity to boost the local economy.”
Sen. Levin said: “This funding will enable Ford Airport to modernize its facilities and update equipment to help the operation run smoothly. Michigan businesses and travelers rely on our airports to make sure their flights are safe and efficient, and this grant will help Dickinson County to do that job.”
Ford Airport will receive $113,850 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration. The money will be used to rehabilitate parts of the runway and taxiway pavement, rehabilitate part of the terminal and acquire new fire fighting safety suits and snow removal equipment.
