Marijuana bust case moves forward
A Keweenaw County man will be back in court in September on charges related to a marijuana bust at his home.
Sixty-three-year-old Thomas Ornelas of Eagle Harbor Township has waived his right to a District Court preliminary exam. His Circuit Court arraignment will take place on September 12th.
County sheriff’s deputies and National Park Service rangers searched his home on August 12th. They say they found about 15 pounds of processed marijuana, more than 30 plants and other marijuana growing equipment.
Ornelas is charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and a firearms charge, both of which are felonies, and maintaining a drug house, which is a misdemeanor.
He’s free on $1,000 bond.
