Woman sentenced in torture case
An Escanaba woman was sentenced Tuesday in connection with abusing, sexually assaulting, and torturing her fifteen-year-old son.
Susan Bardo, 46, was sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court to 20–50 years each on two charges: first degree Child Abuse and Torture. She was given credit for 123 days served, and the sentences will run concurrently.
In April, Escanaba Public Safety Officers went to a home in the 1500 block of North 20th Street to conduct a welfare check on a teenager.
Police found the boy in an upstairs room about 8 by 10 feet and lined with tarps. After Bardo and her boyfriend, 47-year–old Carl Pellinen, were questioned by Public Safety, police searched the home and the two were arrested.
Pellinen pled guilty to first degree child abuse. He will be sentenced August 19.
