Car hits boy riding moped
A 14–year–old boy is in the hospital in Dickinson County after being hit by a car while riding a moped.
Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post of the Michigan State Police say the boy was traveling south on Hydraulic Falls Road in Breitung Township just after 2:30 Monday afternoon. He failed to stop while crossing Breitung Cutoff Road.
Police say the moped drove into the path of a 2010 KIA driven by 60–year–old woman from Cecil, Wisconsin.
The boy was ejected from the moped and the moped was sent across the road into the ditch. The boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and was transported to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
The driver was treated on scene for minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, the Breitung Township Fire Department, Integrated First Response Ambulance, and Advanced Accident Investigators from the MSP Iron Mountain Post all assisted at the scene.
