2013 event open until Sunday
It’s opening day at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba. This is the fourth year of the event operating independent of State funding and, this year, it’s Michigan’s only State Fair.
The Skerbeck Brothers Shows are back on the midway with all sorts of rides and there is plenty of yummy food – from cotton candy to corn dogs. If you go, you’ll want to visit the Educational Pavilion to see the world’s largest yo-yo, golf tee, padlock and key. You can also see artist Sarah Kaufmann at work on the butter sculpting exhibit.
There are a host of other exhibits and free acts to catch: K9s in Flight, Chainsaw Carving; and a number of musical acts. The Department of Natural Resources Pocket Park and Antique Gas and Steam Village will also be open during the fair.
The week-long U.P. State Fair continues through Sunday. You can find out more about it at www.upstatefair.org.
