Manistique garage fire
A fire in Manistique has destroyed a garage and has damaged two homes.
Manistique Public Safety says it happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday at 512 North Mackinac Avenue.
The owner of the garage had put a lawnmower into the garage about 20 minutes before the fire was discovered, and police believe the lawnmower contributed to starting the fire.
The garage is a total loss. The owner’s house and a neighboring house were also damaged. No one was injured.
The garage was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and they needed to remain at the scene for about three hours.
The Hiawatha Township Fire Department, the Sault Tribal Police and the Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.
