Blueberry Fest brings visitors to Marquette

The rainy weather on Friday did not stop people from enjoying the Blueberry Festival in downtown Marquette.

Vendors, businesses, food, and children’s activities lined Front and Washington Streets to celebrate blueberries.  Even though the festival lasts one day, it brings thousands of people downtown.

“The Blueberry Festival keeps growing bigger every year, we have about 3,000 to 4,000 people that come down for it,” Marketing Assistant for the Marquette Downtown Development Authority Lizzie Corser said.  “It’s a great opportunity for locals and visitors a like to explore downtown Marquette, see all of the businesses, all of the vendors, and really see what Marquette has to offer.”

Over 100 vendors and businesses participate in the festival, including vendors from as far away as Colorado and Florida.  People were able to take advantage of special blueberry promotions throughout the day.

“It’s a great opportunity for businesses to get some fresh faces into downtown and showcase what they have to offer through the blueberry sales and specials that occur throughout the day,” Corser said.  “There’s a lot of promotion that goes on for Blueberry Festival, and they get in on that as well.

“It’s a good opportunity for them to take advantage of all the new people who come into the area for for this event, and for Art on the Rocks this weekend as well, because it extends the weekend an extra day.”

The Blueberry Festival runs through 7 p.m. Friday night.
