MI State Police drunk driving audit
Alcohol-related and drug-related auto accidents were on the rise in 2012. They also killed and injured more people than in the previous year. However, state figures show these types of accidents have been on the decline within the last five years.
The Michigan State Police have released the 2012 Michigan Drunk Driving Audit. The State Police and the Michigan Department of State collaborate to put the report together each year.
It found that traffic deaths from crashes in which alcohol, drugs or both were involved increased by 7.2% in Michigan last year. There were 342 deaths in 2012, compared to 319 in 2011. The increase comes after a dramatic decline in 2011.
The report does have some good news, though. It found that those same types of deaths have decreased by 9.8% since 2008.
