Storm knocks out Humboldt Township power
A massive storm has taken out power lines, trees, vehicles, garages, and even a few homes in Humboldt Township.
The severe weather front came through the south shore of the Helen Lake Association in Republic at about 5:00 this morning, and only lasted about five minutes. But, in that time, the storm did enough damage to knock out power for over 400 people living in the area.
The Republic Township Fire Department and the Champion-Humboldt Fire Department had to cut their way through a barrage of fallen trees just to get to the residential area. They continue to free up roads throughout Humboldt Township, Republic, and Champion into the afternoon.
UPPCO has been making steady progress to restore power to the area, and hopes to have most of residents up and running later this evening. You can stay up to date on the current outages through the UPPCO webpage (http://www.uppco.com/outagesummary/view/outagegrid.aspx), which is updated about every fifteen minutes.
