Boy found after five hour search
A six-year-old boy is safe after missing for nearly five hours in Houghton County Wednesday afternoon.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department says the boy walked away from his family while berry picking in Schoolcraft Township.
Police say an intensive ground and air search lasted about five hours. The boy was spotted by a DNR plane on a logging trail four miles from his family’s home. Search and rescue units responded using GPS coordinates to locate the boy.
He was found unharmed with only a few bug bites.
The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Troopers from the Calumet Post of Michigan State Police and their K9 Unit, Superior Search and Rescue, Ahmeek Search and Rescue, Bootjack Search and Rescue, DNR Air Patrol, the Calument Township Fire department, as well as numerous friends and family members of the boy.
