Iron River seat belt stop leads to arrest
A man is now lodged in Iron County Jail after Michigan State Police identified stolen property during a routine seat belt stop.
A Trooper from the Iron Mountain Post was conducting a traffic stop for a seat belt violation in Iron River when he noticed several items inside the vehicle that matched the description of stolen property from the Iron County Cemetery.
The officer then searched the vehicle and found tools taken from the cemetery’s work sheds that had been reported missing last month. They also found additional items from several break-ins in the area.
A warrant has been issued to search the suspect’s home for any other stolen property. The suspect was promptly arrested. His name is being withheld pending tomorrow’s arraignment.
